Today Operah Winfrey is a well-known global personality and among the most influential and inspiring women around the world. Her life and career journey are a true inspiration to millions of people all around the world.
Operah Winfrey was born on 29th January in 1954 in Kosciusko city in United States of America. In the initial stage of her life, she struggled with lot of racism. She came from a poor family and was raised by her grandmother who was a maid and later by her mother. Her grandmother’s only expectation from Oprah was that she becomes a fine maid after growing up. Her mother was also a housemaid. She had to face lot of challenges in her personal life as she was a victim of psychological as well as sexual abuse.
She studied in Lincoln High School in Milwaukee and due to her hard work and intelligence she soon received a transfer to a prestigious High School. During the final year of her high school, she started working in media after winning a beauty pageant.
She started her career with television at the age of seventeen and worked as Anchor at WBAL. Later she joined WLAC TV where she was the youngest anchor in the history of this TV station and also the first black anchor.
Operah Winfrey also worked in the film “The Colour Purple” and won an Academy Award for the best supporting Actress. The list of awards and Operah’s achievements over the years are never ending. She has been running a very successful and powerful show for decades known as “The Operah Show”. She has opened the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for girls.
She is a devoted philanthropist, providing noteworthy support to schools and colleges in US. Operah Winfrey also funds battered women’s shelters and campaigns to catch child abusers. She is also associated with various charity works.
In the words of Oprah Winfrey, the mission of her popular show “The Oprah Winfrey Show” is to use television to transform people’s lives, to make viewers see themselves differently and to bring happiness and a sense of fulfillment into every home.”
In the yar 2004 she was ranked among the 50 most generous Americans. In the year 2012 she donated about 400 million dollars for occasional programs such as scholarships, museums, disaster relief and has always been associated with social causes.
Oprah Winfrey is indeed a great human being and her business as well as successful career can be credited to her passion for helping others.
