What percent of tech CEOs are female?

Unfortunately the percentage of women in tech industry is really low from the general workforce up through management and leadership roles.

According to a report by Catalist, women make up nearly half which 46.6 % of the total workforce. But surprisingly even with all the recent progress in women workforce things are not too good when it comes to tech industry as such. We don’t see too many women in tech industry or STEM related fields.

It is surprising to know that even the well known and giant tech companies like Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft only have a workforce of about 34.4 %.

Based on a recent study conducted by Mchkinsey & company which is a management consulting firm, the difference between the male and female percentage in tech industry is really high and it also suggests that it extends to various levels of employment.

Statistics shows that only 37% of women workers are there in the entry positions in the tech industry. Only about 19% of women have made it to the senior tech positions and it further reduces to 15% when it comes to women CEOs in tech industry.

According to a US Technology Leadership Report in the year 2020 approximately 14% of start-ups in United States of America have a female CEO. In past few years the female percentage in American based start up companies have been growing and currently it is about 28 % in comparison to 22% which was reported in the year 2017.

There are indeed various issues related to gender gap which needs to be addressed in order for women to achieve greater equality in tech industry.
